Maintenance Activities

The primary function of the Road Department is to maintain county roads. County roads are roads that have been dedicated to the public by adjacent property owners and then accepted by the Board of Commissioners to be maintained by the County. Eighteen employees are dedicated to maintenance activities. The crew is on call 24 hours per day to remove fallen trees, plow and sand roads or mitigate any other potential safety problem. Below is a list of maintenance activities performed by the road crew. Road workers must have a broad based knowledge to be both safe and effective. Because the range of tasks performed is so broad, the road workers are skilled in many different vocations.
